Overview

General Manager, Japan


This position is responsible for planning, directing, managing and leading Cook Japan's day-to-day operations, ensure local rules & regulations are compliant with local requirements, and develop initiatives to fulfill the company's objectives and goals while maximizing the efficiency and productivity of the operations. S/he is required to ensure Cook Japan's operations are always in alignment with the vision, mission and values of Cook Medical. The GM is mutually responsible, along with the commercial teams, to ensure achievement of Cook Japan's financial and all other business performance metrics for both short and long term goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure that all teams of Cook Japan are working together and all activities are directed toward commercial success in the country of Japan for Cook product lines, with a priority on sales growth over any contiguous three year period and a healthy operating income.
  2. Work with Vice President, Asia Pacific to develop goals for Cook Japan and execute the strategic business plan, in alignment with and supporting the global commercial and corporate business plans. Review the progress of the business plan and provide timely and accurate reports on operations.
  3. Provide leadership to the daily operations of Cook Japan. Planning and organizing resources according to global and regional goals and priorities
  4. Promote the company's vision, mission & drive Cook Values in Cook Japan, cultivate the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion culture, build and lead community engagement initiatives, develop local strategies, rules & guidelines and setting objectives to achieve the company short term and long term goals.
  5. Build and maintain a trusted relationship with local, regional and global team. Lead local Business Continuity and Risk Response Team.
  6. Ensure effective and efficient communications between Cook Japan employees, regional leaders and global management team. Effective communication of company policies, rules & regulations, procedures and expectations to the employees.
  7. Define and communicate the roles, priorities, responsibilities and expectations in collaboration with local management. Resolve conflicts and problems within the team.
  8. Enhance collaboration and facilitate the working relationships between operational supporting teams and divisional customer facing teams.
  9. Represent the company in its local country relationships with major customers, bankers, government bodies, professional societies, other business partners and similar groups.
  10. Work with HR business partners to plan for the human resource needs, such as attract, recruit and retain talent, professional development & performance management, motivate, and develop employees to reach their full potential.

  11. Enforcing ethical behaviours and take action where necessary.

  12. Have a good understanding and comply with Cook Group Written Standards (CWS) and External Applicable Standards (EAS).

  13. Identifying and implementing strategies for continuous improvement towards best practice. Review, measures and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operation processes and resource utilizations. Diagnose problems and suggest solutions proactively.

  14. Manage the General Administration personnel to maintain an excellent office environment in alignment with the Cook culture in the most cost efficient manner.

  15. Other additional duties as assigned by the company.

  16. Ensure good relationships and reputation with Japanese state agencies and local industry associations.

Qualifications

  1. Degree or above holder, major in Business Management, Administration, or other related discipline.
  2. 10 years or more solid leadership experience in a similar position in a multinational healthcare related industry. Commercial leadership expertise preferred.
  3. Proven record in managing middle to senior management executives and leading a medium size team.
  4. Strong knowledge of local rules and regulations in relation to the operations of local entity.
  5. Excellent command in English and the local language, including spoken and written.
  6. Proficiency in standard MS Office PC applications.
  7. Availability for business travel, attend calls out of business hours and even on weekends.
