Overview

The Opportunity:

 

On a 12-month contract, this role supports engineering by solving material problems to improve and/or develop medical devices and manufacturing processes and advance the strategic goals of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and solve device related material and biocompatibility problems/issues.
  • Lead and/or assist in material related projects/activities including:
    • Restricted Substances / REACH
    • Evaluation of material related supplier changes
    • Material related Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs)
    • Product design changes (material and manufacturing processes)
    • Biocompatibility
  • Contribute technical/scientific expertise in the areas of material design, biocompatibility assessment, failure mode analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Responsible for developing, reviewing, understanding, and summarizing material testing and biocompatibility results.
  • Ensure personal compliance with Cook values, quality system procedures, policies and relevant medical device standards and regulations.
  • Participate in reviews of engineering team outputs (design control and design change deliverables, design reviews and risk evaluation reviews) and contribute to a high quality of output.
  • Conduct education/training events and activities for the Engineering team.
  • Lead and/or assist in material and biocompatibility related QMS updates.
  • Collaborate with Global and Local Functional departments to determine work objective, priorities, deliverables and timelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bachelor level qualifications in Material Science, Polymer Science, Material Engineering, Physics, biomedical engineering or science, or equivalent is essential
  • Experience and knowledge of practical and theoretical materials engineering challenges is essential
  • Knowledge of polymers, metals, ceramics and composites used in medical devices is desirable
  • Knowledge of Biocompatibility testing and evaluation, toxicological risk assessment, chemical characterization
  • Experience in risk management standard application to biocompatibility and material risks
  • Advanced experience in biocompatibility or materials engineering- preferably in the medical device industry
  • Experience with material related failure analysis techniques desirable
  • Demonstrated project management skills desirable
  • Intermediate statistical data analysis skills and experience desirable
  • Exercises effective influencing skills when seeking and building consensus
  • Allocates time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve outcomes
