Overview

Assist in the development for assigned product line(s) with a focus on China-specific new product development (NPD) and lead the identification and evaluation of potential local partners for China and globally. In collaboration with global product management leadership Act as the front-end product portfolio owner to translate China clinical needs, regulatory constraints, and cost realities into executable product definitions that accelerate approval and commercialization. The role partners deeply with R&D, Clinical, Market Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Engineering, Operations, and other groups to ensure products are designed for China from day one, rather than retrofitted post-design. 

Responsibilities

Work closely with stakeholders within the Division, Marketing, company Functions, and Operational Units to implement the strategy for assigned product within China and support local partnerships that could support sales within China and globally. 

  • Lead and complete large and complex projects in a timely manner for planned and unplanned product specific events including, but not limited to, product launches, backorders, and recalls, through collaboration with strategic marketing, sales, commercial business, regulatory, R&D, and manufacturing. 
  • Attend meetings with customers to understand needs, gain feedback, and support the overall business. Meet all deadlines for product related responsibilities such as business planning, product forecasts, etc. 
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external stakeholders to identify and establish design input requirements, in collaboration with strategic marketing and R&D.  
  • Responsible to develop short to mid-term (e.g., 1-2 years) plans and execute the annual strategic goals for assigned product line(s) containing drivers, limiters, and enablers. 
  • Provides frequent briefings to senior leaders both within and outside of job function. 
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees across the Company within area of expertise. 
  • Meet deadlines and complete administrative tasks such as expenses, training, reporting, policy acknowledgements, etc. in a timely manner. 
  • Within scope of responsibility, ensure all quality, regulatory, compliance, and product specific requirements are met. Understand and be accountable for conducting Cook business with integrity and in compliance with applicable standards including Cook policies 

China-Driven Product Strategy 

  • Identify China-specific unmet clinical needs through physician engagement, hospital tiering analysis, and competitive benchmarking. 
  • Define Target Product Profiles (TPPs) optimized for China clinical practice, cost and reimbursement constraints, and domestic vs. imported positioning. 
  • Build China-led product business cases to influence local and global R&D pipeline prioritization. 
  • Identify local development and manufacturing companies in China and globally that could be potential partners with Cook Medical, both within and outside of China, to support product development, manufacturing, and market expansion objectives. 

New Product Development Leadership 

  • Partner closely with local China R&D team to deliver on new pipeline. 
  • Own product management deliverables across concept and feasibility, design inputs and requirements, risk-benefit trade-offs, and clinical evaluation vs. trial strategy. 
  • Act as product decision authority during R&D phase gates. 
  • Ensure early alignment between product design, regulatory expectations, and approval timelines. 
  • Develop and drive the product pipeline for assigned product line(s). 

Regulatory & Clinical Strategy (Front-End) 

  • Define China-appropriate regulatory pathways early, including Class II vs. III strategy, clinical exemption vs. CER vs. clinical trial. 
  • Ensure design decisions support NMPA technical requirements (PTR), Chinese labelling and IFU expectations, and post-market surveillance feasibility. 
  • Reduce late-stage rework by anticipating regulatory constraints upfront. 

Design-for-Localization 

  • Embed localization requirements into product design, with strong collaboration with local engineering team. 
  • Balance innovation ambition with manufacturability in China, IP risk, and time-to-approval. 
  • Support localization pathways where relevant (MAH, DBy, M&A). 

China Market & Commercial Enablement 

  • Drive go-to-market strategy with core launch team including positioning, pricing logic, value propositions, and launch excellence. 
  • Partner with China sales, market development and marketing teams to enable tender readiness, Volume-Based Procurement (VBP) positioning, and account segmentation. 
  • Analyze market trends including VBP, reimbursement, hospital tiering, and domestic competitor evolution. 
  • Support distributor strategy and channel optimization as assigned. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or related discipline required 
  •  At least 10 years relevant work experience in the medical device industry, including but not limited to, product management, engineering, sales, and/or marketing, including significant exposure to China. 
  • Prior Product Management experience managing individual or multiple product lines.  
  • Strong background in new product development, R&D-adjacent product management, or innovation roles.  
  • Proven ability to operate upstream of approval, shaping product design and regulatory approach. 
  • Demonstrates highest level of knowledge and mastery of multiple aspects of product management (e.g., clinical, technical, business acumen, etc.) within applicable product line(s) and market.  
  • Proven record of leading and executing large and complex projects or initiatives.  
  • Prior experience providing guidance, coaching, and/or training to other employees within area of expertise. 
  • Fluent in Mandarin; strong working proficiency in English. 
  • Strong strategic thinking with hands-on execution capability. 
  • Ability to influence R&D and global stakeholders without direct authority. 
  • Ability to make trade-offs between performance, cost, risk, and speed. 
  • Models the company standards that others are expected to follow.  
  • Demonstrates positive and constructive behaviors that drive team cooperation in achieving objectives 
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills.  

China-Specific Expertise 

  • Demonstrated experience bringing new or significantly adapted products to market in China. 
  • Solid understanding of NMPA regulatory pathways and their impact on design decisions. 
  • Experience working with clinical evaluation reports (CERs), exemption lists, and China clinical strategy. 
  • Familiarity with China healthcare system dynamics (hospital tiers, procurement behaviour, domestic competitors). 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least 7 years of experience in Product Management or equivalent in the medical device industry. 
  • Advanced degree (Master's / MBA). 
  • Previous experience working with local Chinese manufacturers on distribution or supply agreements a plus.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT 
  • Requires occasional early morning or late evening teleconferences. Domestic and global travel as required. Ability to travel internationally, domestically, and weekends as needed up to 50%. 
  • Work under general office environmental conditions.
