  • Overview

    Reporting to the Vice President, General Counsel / Managing Director – APAC, this position is responsible for providing broad-based legal advice and support across Cook Medical’s Asia Pacific operations to ensure the highest standards in commercial transactions, governance, risk management, and compliance.  This position will be a key member of the Global Legal Function and provide leadership direction for the Asia Pacific legal operations.


    1. Understanding and implementing corporate guidelines and policies with regard to Cook’s Code of Conduct, anti-bribery, anti-corruption policies, life sciences and medical device compliance policies and procedures. Ensure that Cook’s Code of Conduct is considered in all business matters carried out on Cook’s behalf.
    2. Working cross-functionally to ensure ongoing activities, including interactions with healthcare professionals meet industry norms and requirements on ethical interactions, and assist with auditing and monitoring to ensure compliance with requirements.
    3. Providing insights and developments of trends and issues in the life sciences and medical device environment.
    4. Providing daily advice on Cook’s general business operations including various legal issues that may arise in addition to regulatory and statutory compliance, commercial matters, and contractual rights and obligations
    5. Draft, negotiate and finalise a wide range of legal documents and agreements for use with operations including but not limited to confidentiality agreements, development agreements, compliance agreements, bids and tenders, video/audio releases, and funding agreements.
    6. Assist in the development, retention and availability of the company’s template and precedent documents
    7. Support design, management, development and implementation of functional policies, procedures and relative governance frameworks to drive attainment of organisational and global objectives.
    8. Identify and provide training to operational, divisional and functional teams on legal matters.
    9. Select, supervise and manage external legal advisers and subject matter experts as appropriate and manage legal costs and expenses. Conduct independent legal research as required.
    10. Assist the Global Legal Function with management, disputes, investigation and response to claims, threatened or actual litigation.
    11. Collaborate and coordinate with the Global Legal Function to ensure unity of purpose and direction and provide timely, accurate and informative reporting as requested.


    1. Relevant law degree or equivalent with current Hong Kong admission (or Australia / US / UK admission)
    2. A minimum of 7 years’ post admission experience either in-house or medium-large commercial law firm, with extensive contracts experience.
    3. General knowledge of Asia Pacific region and legal environment and landscape
    4. Self-motivated, flexible, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment within a matrix organization.
    5. Strong organizational skill, with open and approachable personality, willing and capable to explain complex legal issues in simple language
    6. Demonstrated knowledge of the medical device/pharma industry is an advantage.
    7. Fluency in English (written or spoken ability in at least one major Asian language such as Mandarin or Cantonese an advantage).
    8. Frequent and extensive travel across the assigned region is required
