The Legal Counsel - APAC is responsible for providing broad-based legal advice and support across Cook Medical’s Asia Pacific operations to ensure the highest standards in commercial transactions, governance, risk management, and compliance.  This position will be a key member of the Legal Function.


  1. Understand and implement corporate guidelines and policies with regard to Cook’s Code of Conduct, anti-bribery, anti-corruption policies, life sciences and medical device compliance policies and procedures. Ensure that Cook’s Code of Conduct is considered in all business matters carried out on Cook’s behalf.
  2. Work cross-functionally to ensure ongoing activities, including interactions with healthcare professionals meet industry norms and requirements on ethical interactions, and assist with auditing and monitoring to ensure compliance with requirements.
  3. Provide insights and developments of trends and issues in the life sciences and medical device environment.
  4. Provide daily advice on Cook’s general business operations including various legal issues that may arise in addition to regulatory and statutory compliance, commercial matters, and contractual rights and obligations
  5. Draft, negotiate and finalize a wide range of legal documents and agreements for use with operations including but not limited to confidentiality agreements, development agreements, compliance agreements, bids and tenders, video/audio releases, and funding agreements.
  6. Assist in the development, retention and availability of the company’s template and precedent documents
  7. Support design, management, development and implementation of functional policies, procedures, metrics, matter management systems and relative governance frameworks to drive attainment of organizational and global objectives.
  8. Identify and provide training to operational, divisional and functional teams on legal matters.
  9. Select, supervise and manage external legal advisers and subject matter experts as appropriate and manage legal costs and expenses. Conduct independent legal research as required.
  10. Assist the Senior Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific and overall Global Legal Function with management, disputes, investigation and response to claims, threatened or actual litigation.


  1. Degree or above in Law or related discipline.
  2. Minimum 4 years of solid working experience.
  3. Broad legal experience preferably in-house and/or medium-large commercial law firm.
  4. With extensive contracts experience.
  5. General knowledge of Asia Pacific region and legal environment and landscape.
  6. Fluent in English (written or spoken ability in at least one major Asian language such as Mandarin is an advantage).
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of the medical device/pharma industry is an advantage.
  8. Good communication and organization skills
  9. Approachable personality and willingness to explain complex legal issues in simple language.
